Winter Styling: Column Shape

Now is the time to pick your perfect winter wardrobe for your body shape! If you are lucky enough to be the column shape, you have long legs, slight waist and evenly matched hips and bust creating a column shape. This figure is one of the easiest to style as it is beautiful and distinctive.

It does not take much work to create a winter style that looks fabulous. The trick is to give your perfectly proportioned body the appearance of some extra curves.

One challenge that you are likely to face is many clothes may not fit you properly because you are taller than most women. You need to make sure the length of your pants and sleeves is adequate for your size. When it is colder outside, you will also have to make sure that your coat sleeves are long enough. Nothing can cramp your style like clothes that are too short and make your body look usually long. Most high quality clothing stores and brands offer great clothing options for both tall and short women.

Look for winter clothes that highlight your waist. For example, some pants have a wide waist that will draw attention to that area. You should also experiment with different belts. Both of these options will give the appearance of curvy hips and a well-defined waist.

When it comes to the tops you wear this winter, do not be afraid of form fitted tops. These tops will give your body the sexy appearance of the hourglass figure. Try adding some definition to your body by colouring blocking with this winters’ hottest jewel tone or pastel colours.

There are many great jacket and coat options this winter. Similar to the tops you wear, the coats you selected should also be fitted. Try coats that have detailing and angular cuts because they will give your body the illusion of a curvy figure. Avoid wearing straight up and down coats because they do not enhance your figure.

Taking care of your clothes: 7 tips for storing your clothes

Lifestyle

Untitled design (62) 2

You likely have a good deal of cash invested in your clothing. Properly storing your summer wardrobe will ensure that it is ready to go once the winter season is over. Even if you’re the type of girl that likes to just buy new with each season, you will still have some favorite pieces that you’ll want to store.

These seven tips will make getting through the process of switching out wardrobes easy, and will ensure that your clothes are in pristine condition when you pull them out next season.

Tip # 1 – Get organized

The first tip is not actually relative to storing but relative to getting a bit more organised. As you are rummaging through your summer clothes BEFORE you prepare an item for storage ask yourself “when was the last time I wore this piece?” if the answer is “I cannot remember” then it’s time to either donate, sell or swap the piece. Do not keep storing clothing that you do not wear. It takes up space and can prevent you from getting a piece that you will wear. We all hang on to things that we just do not use in the hopes that we will… but most times we don’t.

Tip #2 – Clean it up

Once you have your clothes sorted into “keep” and “delete” piles it is now time to examine the clothing. Look for rips, tears, missing buttons, broken zippers and stains. It is far better to address any issues now before you store it. Take whatever has to go to the dry cleaners for repairs or cleaning so that when you pull it all back out it will be clean and ready to wear.

Tip # 3 – Just say no to cardboard

Never store your clothing in cardboard. You will be inviting unwanted critters to feast on your wardrobe. Bugs like to eat cardboard and will hang around in your clothing doing what bugs do. Use plastic bins.

Tip # 4 – Hang it if you can

Folding clothing that is going to be stored is not the best way to store it, especially if it’s something that’s not normally folded as it will pick up creases that may become permanent.

Tip # 5 – Control the climate

If you are unable to store your clothing in your closet, use a storage facility that has climate control. Try hard to avoid storing items in a shed or garage unless it has a controlled temperature. This can ruin your favourite clothing items easily.

Tip # 6 – Line your storage boxes

Even in climate controlled lockers, there will be some humidity that can stain your clothing. Line the storage container with acid free tissue paper that will protect your clothing from any moisture build up.

Tip # 7 – Don’t over pack

Store items loosely so that air can circulate. It will keep them from getting musty while in storage.

Winter Styling: Hourglass Shape

Sapphire Butterfly, Style File

Untitled design (61) 2

If you are fortunate enough to have the hourglass body shape, you have a larger bust area and wide hips that are proportionate in size. You have a slimmer waist creating an hourglass-like shape… this body shape is curvy and sexy.

The key to styling your hourglass figure this winter is not hiding your beautiful curves. While there are some challenges, they can be easy overcome by accentuating your curves.

This winter shades of grey, jewel tones and pastels are hot. The hourglass figure is best flattered with solid colours; however, some muted patterns could also work. Try colour blocking, for example wear contrasting pastels above and below your waist.

When you’re choosing your winter coat, pick shorter, tailored coats that draw inward towards your waist area. When your coats stop above your hips, your killer curves will be accentuated. It is best to avoid materials that are stiff as they can make you look boxy.

Although the weather is cooler in winter, try to find tops with lower necklines that draws attention down toward your bust area and waist. Boat necks and square necks should be avoided because they tend to make your shape look top-heavy.

Wide-leg and boot-cut pant styles are a great choice because they create a long, slim appearance. While skinny-leg styles generally make the hourglass shape look shorter and can be unflattering. Avoid pants with many embellishments, flaps or buttons on the hips as it can draw unnecessary attention to your hips. Your hips will naturally draw attention to show off your sexy curves.

When you are ready to accessorise your winter outfit, remember the basic rule, keep your body balanced and elongated. A “V” shaped necklace will draw attention to your neckline and down toward your waist. Select fun or chunky bracelets to show off your hip area. Also, avoid wearing bulky scarfs as they can make you appear top-heavy and not proportionate. The final key to accessorizing an hourglass figure is adding a dark belt around your narrow waist. This will act as a focal point and show off your hourglass shape.

The second most wonderful time of the year is almost here, Christmas in July. The weather is cooler, celebrations begin and the stores will be loaded with sales. While it is always nice to think about gifts for others; do not forget that special person who also deserves a gift, you!

Take time to spoil yourself and take some time to relax. The truth is if you do not take care of yourself, how can you take care of others? This does not mean you have to spend a lot of money on yourself. Just think of things that will help you relax and feel pampered every once in a while. This can help make this time of the year less draining and stressful.

Below are six gift ideas you can buy yourself this year:

  1. Gift Certificate To The Local Spa: You cannot go wrong with a gift certificate to your favourite spa to enjoy a facial, pedicure, manicure or massage. This is a sure fire way to distress and unwind this July.

  1. New Gym Wear: Treating yourself to a new gym outfit or yoga wear will not only have you looking great, it works as a great motivation to get you back into the gym. Choose colours that you find inspiring and motivating. If you can, go all out and buy a pair of comfy athletic sneakers to give you a complete look.

  1. Bath Essentials: Create a bath essential kit for yourself so you can unwind from a stressful day. Once you have the essentials, you can give yourself a little getaway every night when you get home. You will need an aroma bubble bath, candles, bath sponge, and anything else you would love for your bath time. Consider using your smartphone to play your favourite music and don’t forget to lock the door.

  1. Electronic Reader: Investing in an electronic reader is a great way to escape into a good book anywhere you go. If you already have an iPad or tablet, you can easily install free reader application allowing you to easily access your favourite e-books on your device.

  1. Massage Chair: If you cannot afford to get massages often or you just do not have the time, consider buying a high quality massage chair for your office or home. These devices can help relax your body and relieve any built up tension. If you have not tried a massage chair in a few years, it’s time to try one out again. They have come a long way in the past couple of years and have become extremely effective tools to relieve back pain.

Winter Styling: Pear Shape

As we head in to the colder months, now’s a good time for you to start planning what to wear and what will look great on you. If you have a pear body shape, you have curvy hips, narrow shoulders, an average bust and fuller thighs. You also have a feature that many girls would love to have these days, a voluptuous bottom. These features give you a pear-like shape that is sexy and curvy.

Like all body shapes, the pear shape can present some challenges when you are selecting your winter apparel. The trick is accentuating your best features, clearly defining your waistline and enhancing your top half to create a balanced look. Fortunately, the pear shape is currently the most common body shape on women so there are many great styles available at women’s clothing stores.

The first thing you need is a great push-up bra. A high quality bra with a little padding will give your bust area a great shape, boost up your breasts and fill out your upper portion nicely. This will provide some extra cleavage that will draw attention to your upper body.

Women with the pear body shape can have the most fun shopping for winter coats and jackets. The key to balance the appearance of your body is to wear details, patterns and texture on the upper part of your body. You can experiment with puffy down coats, unique faux fur coats that are waist length, and other semi-fitted jackets that attract attention to your best feature, your upper body. Experiment with the latest styles to change up your winter style.

Use accessories to add a unique flair to your style. Fashion scarfs are a great way to add balance to your shape and draw attention to your top half. Pair your winter outfits with a quality handbag, a statement necklace and eye catching earrings.

The best part about winter is being able to switch out your style. This winter brings plenty of fashion trends that you will absolutely love. There is one word that accurately describes the trends for this winter; FABULOUS! Some winter seasons bring drab looks to the scene but this winter it is all about the Femme Fatale look. Lush leathers paired with the unexpected flirty dress is going to be a big style staple this winter.

Of course you know leopard print shoes are always the rage and this winter expect to see lots of booties in leopard.

Enough with the chit chat let’s take a look at the trends that you are going to love.

Feminine Form

Ruffles, pastels and flower prints are playing a big role in fashion for the winter. Many of the pieces will take you right from this summer through the winter into the next summer. If you are all about that lace than you will love this season’s options. You do not have to go overboard with the girly girl wear but you can add a nice lacy blouse to a pair of neutral trousers to just remind everyone that you are in fact a lady.

A Nod to the Fellas

The menswear trend is still going strong in ladies fashion for the winter. The male silhouette is absolutely trendy and on point this season, you do not have to go for a head to toe masculine look but a pair of pinstriped trousers paired with that lacy top will keep you in style.

Gym anyone?

The sporty look is still turning heads for the winter. It may be because being healthy and sporty is ever so popular or maybe we have just gotten fashion lazy but it is not very hard to find upscale track suits with tapered bottoms and t shirt dresses that can be paired with a fashionable pair of sneakers.

Less is more

Structured cut dresses in block colors or monochrome graphics are a big trend this winter. If you can easily pull off the plain Jane look than this trend will certainly get you some attention. Think red pencil skirts, fitted dresses with trench coats that have a little destructure to them and you will be on point with this trend.

Graphic Prints

This winter you will see a lot of prints on the street from floral designs (for the feminine you) to leopard print (for the femme fatale you) they are all out there.

Fashion is simply delicious this winter! P.S. Do get a fantastic trench for this season they are everywhere!

Winter Styling: Apple Shape

Uncategorized

With winter around the corner (or already here… depending where you live!), you are probably wondering what will look best on you this season. If you are blessed with the apple body shape, this means you have slim arms and legs, rounded shoulders with a fuller hip and waist area creating an apple-like shape.

If you learn how to ‘camouflage’ your trouble areas, creating your winter style can be quite easy and fun. The trick is to highlight your best features – such as your slim arms or legs – while downplaying problem spots like your wider waist.

The cooler months can actually be very beneficial to your winter style. It is best that you avoid wearing short sleeve tops because they end near your bust line; however, in the winter there are many long sleeve options for you to choose from. Look for tops that flow downward from your bust line such as a high-waistline, empire waist or A-line top. Choose tops that are long and fall under your buttocks.

This winter, dark jewel tones and greys are trending; however, pastel colours are also making an appearance. There are many great pastel coats, dresses, pants and tops to mix and match. Choose the colours that look best with your skin tones and accentuate your positive features by emphasizing your amazing bust area and showing off your sexy legs.

When you are choosing your winter coats, choose a longer cut that is fitting so it gives an elongated appearance and avoid puffy down coats or faux fur coats that make your waist and hip area look wider.

Looking to accessorize? Have some fun and accessorize your winter outfits with skinny fashion scarfs that will draw attention to your beautiful neckline. Choose simple, yet noticeable, necklaces and bangle bracelets to add some personality to your winter attire.

Once you understand the basics of your apple body shape, you will not have problems with your style this winter. Just make sure to balance your body, lengthen your appearance and have fun.
